Park Donation

The Sheboygan Optimist Club recently donated $25,000 to the City of Sheboygan for installation of new playground equipment at Optimist Park on Sheboygan’s south side.

Accepting the check on behalf of the City of Sheboygan were Mayor Mike Vandersteen, City Administrator Todd Wolf, and Park and Forestry Supervisor Joe Kerlin.  Optimist International District Governor Dan O’Leary from Howard Suamico, and Governor-Elect Ann Sheahan from Two Rivers, were also present to congratulate the Optimists and City leaders for working together to improve the lives of the children in Sheboygan.

Mayor Vandersteen thanked the club members for their “continued commitment to Optimist Park upkeep and improvements since the park’s inception in the early 1980’s.”

Mr. Wolf stressed the importance of the partnership that the Optimist Club and the City have forged for the betterment of families in the neighborhood.

In its effort to continue “Bringing Out the Best in Kids” club members chose a merry-go-all, four seat see saw and a musical play structure to encourage inclusive play by children of all abilities.  Installation is set to begin in early October.

Club President Laurel Schirmer thanked the club members for their support of the fundraising efforts that allowed the organization to make this sizeable donation.
